How a NASA simulation inspired Clair Obscur's character lineup
Briefly

Jennifer Svedberg-Yen reimagines RPG dynamics in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 by drawing personal experience from a NASA simulation. The game features a diverse expedition team, emphasizing the inclusion of non-military roles like engineers and scholars to tackle challenges beyond combat. As character development progressed, classic elements such as elemental magic were retained, with characters designed to contribute skills vital for the mission. This approach intertwines turn-based mechanics with rich storytelling, enhancing player investment in the characters and their unique abilities.
This sounds so random, but I did a brief NASA simulation where I was an analog astronaut. I was simulating a mission to an asteroid at NASA's compound in Houston.
In a story-rich fantasy game where player investment is everything, mechanics drive character. We wanted someone with some sort of elemental magic...and more swords and guns.
