In a cemetery near Sacramento, gravestones bear the inscription 'Unknown, moved from Negro Hill Cemetery by the U.S. Government 1954.' The settlement, once home to 1,200 Black miners during the Gold Rush, was submerged under Folsom Lake.
All of the Black history that is woven throughout all of these sites was never expressed or interpreted, We're going to be telling all those stories.
