Taiwan shuts down, braces for arrival of Super Typhoon Kong-rey
Briefly

Taiwan has shut down schools and businesses as Super Typhoon Kong-rey approaches. The storm, one of the most powerful in decades, may cause widespread damage.
The typhoon's storm radius of 320km makes it the largest to hit Taiwan since 1996, with forecasted winds exceeding 160 km/h and heavy rain expected.
Taiwan's Ministry of Defence has 36,000 troops ready for rescue operations, while over 1,300 individuals have been evacuated from high-risk areas ahead of landfall.
Residents reported severe weather in Taipei and across Taiwan. The cancellations of nearly 300 international flights reflect the typhoon's significant impact on travel.
