Sen. Tommy Tuberville expressed strong support for jailing individuals who protest Israel's actions in Gaza, following the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian student who organized demonstrations. Khalil, who was detained by federal agents in front of his family, had his immigration status revoked despite being legally in the U.S. His case has sparked outrage among legal experts citing First Amendment protections. Khalil is contesting his detention in court, while Tuberville continues to advocate for harsh measures against protesters perceived to promote anti-Semitic sentiments.
"We gotta make sure we treat all of them the same, he said. Send them to jail. Free speech is great, but hateful, hate, free speech is not what we need in these universities."
"Khalil has challenged his detention in federal court. U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman is set to decide whether Khalil's transfer to Louisiana broke the law because his attorney challenged the arrest while Khalil was in New York."
