Known as the Karlsruhe Sketchbook, it contains drawings by Friedrich of the Dresden area and is one of just six of his sketchbooks known to still exist.
Marion Ackermann, director of Dresden's State Art Collections, emphasized the significance of the joint acquisition, stating, 'sharing is the new having!'
The Ernst von Siemens Art Foundation, in coordination with Villa Grisebach, took the initiative to acquire the sketchbook at its own risk, facilitating the preservation and display of this valuable cultural artifact.
The sketchbook's exhibition journey includes showings in Berlin, Dresden, and Weimar, highlighting Caspar David Friedrich's artistic legacy during a significant anniversary year for German museums.
