Mobility Committee hears public concern regarding expansion of MoPac - Austin Monitor
Briefly

"We feel really strongly that the city and the community have an opportunity to make sure that an alternative study aligns with our values and vision. Every time we expand a highway in the city, we are digging ourselves deeper into the very hole that we are trying desperately to claw ourselves out of with the rest of city policy," Schoenfield said.
"We are allowing more dense development to happen in the city, and that's great, but the most immediate impact of a highway expansion like this is that it will result in low-density car-dependent development. It's great that we are removing parking minimums, but if we're then inviting an additional 100,000-plus cars into the city every day we are creating demand for parking," Schoenfield said.
"It's great we are trying to eliminate our reliance on coal, but just the I-35 expansion is the emissions equivalent of a coal plant," Schoenfield said.
