The documentary short film, "Haskell House and the Story of Clarksville," was recognized by the Austin Parks and Recreation Board for showcasing the Hezikiah Haskell House, an important historic landmark in Clarksville. The film details the history and lineage of the Haskell family, emphasizing the house's role in the city's heritage as a former freedom colony. Commissioned by the city's parks department, the documentary aims to enrich visitor understanding and connection to the area's significance during and after the Reconstruction era.
The Haskell House holds an invaluable piece of our City's heritage, serving as a bridge between the past and the present," the board's letter reads.
When we set out to make this, we wanted to make a documentary that would not only educate visitors but also give them a deeper and more authentic connection to the Haskell House and the descendants of Clarksville's original residents," said Cynthia Jefferies.
