In August 2020, eight humanoid statues named 'Shadows' appeared in the Saint-Sophia Cathedral area in Kyiv, created by GORN Ceramics. These faceless, ghostly sculptures sparked a transformation for GORN, encouraging a shift from utilitarian ceramics to art reflecting human connections, spirituality, and challenges faced during the war with Russia. Initially intended as a temporary exhibition, their profound impact led to their permanent presence. Co-founders Yuriy Myrko and Bogdan Kryvosheya embraced creative freedom, marking a significant evolution in their artistic journey amidst adversity.
The war with Russia has catalyzed a transformation in GORN Ceramics' output, pushing them towards meaningful art that reflects resilience and creativity amidst adversity.
Initially focused on utilitarian ceramics, GORN’s most notable pieces, including the Shadows, illustrate a shift towards exploring profound themes like death and spirituality.
