Guadalupe Maravilla's artistic practice embodies the idea that sound serves as medicine. His project 'Mariposa Relámpago' features a reimagined school bus filled with found objects and represents his immigrant journey. The accompanying short documentary highlights his childhood in El Salvador and the inspirations drawn from traditional decorated vehicles. Maravilla aims to facilitate healing not only for victims of migration but also for border agents, suggesting a deeper need for understanding and empathy within complex social issues, as demonstrated in a sound bath ceremony that included both communities in West Texas.
I wanted to bring a school bus from El Salvador to the United States, and I wanted to have the same migratory path that I had as a kid.
My community sees them as very threatening, but I realized that I wanted to do a ceremony for border patrol agents because it's not just about healing those that have been hurt but also healing other more complex situations as well.
