OpenAI's Sora Is Plagued by Sexist, Racist, and Ableist Biases
Briefly

WIRED tested OpenAI's AI video generator, Sora, and found it reinforces sex and disability stereotypes, similar to biases in AI image generators. The investigation revealed that Sora predominantly depicts men in high-status jobs and women in supporting roles, while also struggling to accurately represent disabled individuals and racial diversity. OpenAI admitted that bias remains an ongoing challenge and is working on methods to mitigate these biases through adjustments in training data and prompt generation, recognizing that overcorrection could also present problems.
In Sora's world, everyone is good-looking. Pilots, CEOs, and college professors are men, while flight attendants, receptionists, and childcare workers are women.
OpenAI has safety teams dedicated to researching and reducing bias, and other risks, in our models, acknowledging that bias is an industry-wide issue.
