Only a handful of generative AI projects make it into production - here's why

A recent study by Informatica reveals that under 40% of generative AI projects have transitioned to production, highlighting significant struggles firms face with data quality and technological maturity. Of the 600 data leaders surveyed, issues such as unreliable data and cybersecurity concerns hinder progress, prompting 41% of companies to slow or pause their initiatives. Notably, while the UK and EU cite technology issues as a primary barrier, US firms encounter challenges around data quality. A persistent lack of trust in AI results further complicates efforts to showcase the return on investment for these projects.

Less than two-fifths (38%) of AI projects have successfully transitioned into production, raising concerns over data quality and technological readiness.

The pressure to demonstrate ROI, combined with concerns over data quality and regulatory delays, is creating a perfect storm for organizations pursuing generative AI.
