Google is launching its Veo 2 video-generating AI model for subscribers of its Gemini Advanced plan, competing with established platforms like OpenAI's Sora. Users can create eight-second video clips at 720p, share them on TikTok and YouTube, or download them with a watermark. While Veo 2's initial offerings are basic, Google plans to enhance it through integration with its other AI models. Concerns are rising within creative sectors regarding the impact of such technologies on jobs and artistic integrity, underscored by a study predicting significant job displacement in animation.
Starting Tuesday, Gemini Advanced subscribers will be able to select Veo 2 from the model drop-down menu in Google's Gemini apps.
There's a limit to how many videos users can create each month, and the Google Workspace business and education plans aren't supported at the moment.
But the CEO of Google DeepMind... said that the company plans to eventually combine its Gemini AI models with Veo to improve the former's understanding of the physical world.
