Caterpillar is piloting an AI assistive system called Cat AI in a Cat 306 CR Mini Excavator using Nvidia's Jetson Thor platform. Cat AI is built on a fleet of AI agents that can answer operator questions, grant access to resources, offer safety tips, and schedule services. Caterpillar is also building digital twins of construction sites with Nvidia Omniverse to test schedules and estimate material needs. Caterpillar's machines transmit roughly 2,000 messages per second to support simulations and analytics. The pilots extend existing autonomous mining capabilities and create a technology foundation for broader automation.
