Apple has removed its Advanced Data Protection (ADP) security tool for iPhone users in the UK, which provided end-to-end encryption for iCloud data. This decision came after the UK government's request for access to such data, marking a significant loss in data security amidst growing concerns over data breaches and privacy threats. Current users will be affected eventually as they will need to disable this feature. An Apple spokesperson expressed disappointment in this change, emphasizing the company's commitment to user privacy and security.
Apple has now removed Advanced Data Protection (ADP) as a feature to new users in the UK, in response to a request earlier this month from the UK government.
We are gravely disappointed that the protections provided by ADP will not be available to our customers in the UK given the continuing rise of data breaches and other threats to customer privacy.
