Growing up in New England, I cherished visits to apple orchards each fall, savoring fresh, juicy apples right off the tree—an experience I sought after moving to California.
Despite the lack of pick-your-own apple orchards in the Bay Area, a few regional options remain, with Apple Hill in the Sierra foothills recognized as a substantial apple-growing region.
The apple-picking season in the Bay Area starts mid-September and requires advance tickets. The orchards offer various apple types and other fresh produce, including baked goods.
