Eddy Cue is fighting to save Apple's $20 billion paycheck from Google
Briefly

In a recent courtroom testimony, Apple’s Eddy Cue argued that the rise of AI services poses a significant threat to Google's search monopoly, potentially surpassing the efficacy of legal interventions. Despite being part of ongoing antitrust discussions regarding Google's dominance, Cue noted a notable decline in search volume for Apple's Safari, linking it to increased user preference for AI chatbots for information. With advancements in AI rapidly evolving, Cue suggested that the monopolistic practices identified by Judge Mehta may become less relevant in the face of this technological progress.
During the current remedies trial on Wednesday, Cue said that in the time since, well-funded generative AI upstarts have made such significant advancements that they could ultimately disrupt that monopoly - perhaps more effectively than the court could.
For the first time in 22 years, Cue said, Apple saw search volume decline in its Safari browser last month - a side effect of users seeking more information from AI chatbots.
