Many electric vehicle (EV) owners can use Level 1 charging at home, which offers a range addition of about six kilometres per hour, making it cost-effective. However, for longer trips without adequate public chargers, Level 2 charging, which delivers 30-50 kilometres of range per hour, becomes essential. Experts suggest that evaluating personal driving patterns is crucial, as individuals with extended commutes or those lacking public charging infrastructure may require faster charging solutions to meet their needs.
Julia McNally, director of climate action at Toronto Hydro, mentioned that Level 1 charging is sufficient for drivers covering less than 60 kilometres daily, highlighting the importance of driving habits in deciding charging needs.
Marlon Hagerty shared the need for Level 2 charging at home due to long trips without adequate public charging options, indicating that waiting for a Level 1 charge isn't practical for longer journeys.
