Lime's scooter and ebike batteries will be recycled by Redwood Materials | TechCrunch
Briefly

Lime has partnered with Redwood Materials to recycle batteries used in its electric scooters and bikes, allowing the recovery of vital minerals like lithium and cobalt. This agreement makes Redwood the exclusive battery recycler for Lime’s operations in the U.S., Germany, and the Netherlands, marking Lime's first direct partnership with a North American battery recycler. Redwood Materials focuses on a closed-loop system that minimizes mineral demand and aligns with Lime’s sustainability goals to decarbonize by 2030, having already made significant emissions reductions since 2019.
This collaboration marks significant progress towards establishing a more circular supply chain, helping ensure our batteries are not only responsibly recycled once they reach their end of life, but that their materials are returned into the battery supply chain.
Once recovered and recycled, the materials will be reintroduced in the battery manufacturing process. This closed-loop manufacturing system - which can reduce demand for mining and refining minerals - is at the heart of Redwood Materials business model.
