In the summer of 2024, photographer Pietro Lazzaris embarked on a journey to document American truck culture through his project 'Trucking - Today's America as Seen From the Cab.' His quest began after being inspired by the Over the Road podcast. Despite facing initial rejection and misunderstanding from truckers, he persevered and eventually attended a truck show in New York, where he met trucker Stray Cat. Their friendship highlights the deep culture of trucking and Lazzaris' dedication to bridging their worlds.
"He's now 45 and just wakes up every morning and starts driving. He doesn't have a house. That's his house," Lazzaris says.
"No one understood who I was or why I was there - like, who's this young Italian dude with a real English accent? The whole story wasn't that convincing to them," he says.
"Cool, see you there," was the casual response Lazzaris received, mistaking it for an open invitation to the truck show.
"By the time we got to Syracuse, we had become friends in an hour," he says, recounting his connection with the trucker Stray Cat.
