LONDON, England -- The real winner from Arsenal's surprise 2-0 win over Chelsea didn't make a shot, pass or tackle at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The true victors were Manchester City, who can now take a nine-point lead at the top of the Women's Super League (WSL) with a victory this weekend. Despite a poor season and a host of injuries, Arsenal capitalised on Chelsea's wastefulness to register their first away win in this fixture since 2018.
There were some forced changes to Arsenal's starting XI, with Olivia Smith's suspension and Frida Maanum's illness adding to injuries to several key players, including the England duo Leah Williamson and Chloe Kelly. Despite their depleted number, Renee Slegers's side were dominant in possession, at times weaving together some lovely patterns of play. However, the end product was notably absent once again, the Gunners searching for the eye-of-a-needle pass through Chelsea's stoic and well-balanced back three of Lucy Bronze, Naomi Girma and Millie Bright.
"One of the main things we learned throughout this process is that it is about giving our fans the choice. "It is a great example of the women's game being different to the men's game - both from a legislation point of view but also a chance to innovate and do some really cool stuff. "It was putting the choice back in the fans' hands and letting them tell us what they think. You don't know unless you have tried these things."
She has done really well. Of course she has her super strength -- she's very fast and with that speed she can still create and be controlled and balanced. So she's a really, really good player ... made a great impact for Chelsea and really shown herself in the WSL. So we'll have to look out for her [on Saturday]. We have to find the right ways to stop her.
Some of the richest clubs in women's football saw their revenues increase by 35% last year, with Arsenal generating the largest revenue in Europe for the first time since Deloitte began charting the top earners in the women's game. The north London side had revenues of 25.6m (22.2m), narrowly overtaking Chelsea, thanks largely to their 7m of matchday revenue, which was nearly twice as much as anyone else, boosted by their move to play all of their home league fixtures at the Emirates Stadium.
When you look at the bigger picture, there are so many people investing to come and watch us in the stadium or on TV. The product needs to be attractive and this is one of the areas that probably brings the entertainment down a little bit. I haven't had much time to think about the exact solution but I think there are other people who are thinking about that... hopefully!
"She has settled in really well," Ho told BBC Sport. "She is training really well and she has settled in with the players on the pitch. That is where she comes into her own a little bit, she is more relaxed there. "You can see the level of quality she possesses on the pitch, but away from the pitch she just needs to settle into the new environment and the new culture."
I am really honoured and excited to start my journey here. I am looking forward meeting the fans and playing at King Power Stadium,"Jansson said. "I will always bring my everything to the club I'm playing for, so the supporters can expect that from me. "The WSL is a great league and where all players want to play. I am happy to be here and happy to be here with Leicester.

Another year of football is over and it's time to start looking ahead to 2026. Will an English club be crowned champions of Europe? Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham are all looking to reach the last 16.

The 2026 winter transfer window for the Women's Super League (WSL) begins on Jan. 2 and ends on Feb. 3, but what do teams need to do? Manchester City have set the pace and lead the table by six points as we head into the winter break, with action set to resume on Jan. 10, while Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United have work to do to catch them.
London City Lionesses have sacked manager Jocelyn Precheur midway through their debut Women's Super League season. It is understood the club have a replacement lined up for Precheur, who guided London City to promotion in 2024-25. Players and staff were informed of the decision on Sunday. It is believed the club have not made the decision based on results but with the view to changing their plans for the long term, and they do not see the Frenchman as the right manager to guide them
