Donald Trump has called for US companies to abandon quarterly reporting, shift to a semi-annual model. Having to cover this stuff, I can say that's something I and many like me could get behind. On a more serious note, the idea has plenty of merit - for instance it could foster a change where management focus all their efforts not on the next quarterly target, instead taking a more measured, long-term view.
Helen Dickinson, Chief Executive at the British Retail Consortium, said, "Retail jobs have continued to fall, with 364,000 fewer jobs than ten years ago... This wave of retail jobs losses appears to go unnoticed by government."
Jess McGregor, president of the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services, highlighted that many older and disabled individuals depend on international workers for care, stating that cutting off this source without a replacement plan will cause significant concern among families and employers. "Almost a third of direct care workers in the UK are non-British, and cutting this off will worry many, especially considering that the recruitment of these workers has kept the system from faltering."
