On November 10, 1995, the original Twisted Metal for the first PlayStation dropped, and no aspect of gaming was ever the same again. Before Twisted Metal, we did had racing games, and games where you could fire missiles and guns and blow things up. But Twisted Metal combined these subgenres and tropes in a way that had never really been attempted before.

The first round of the titular Twisted Metal tournament mostly happens on foot, which is disappointing considering the competition involves cars. Only five episodes are left, with several story arcs still to resolve.

Calypso, seen as a mere drifter, claims he is the great uniter of this broken nation, revealing a deeper connection to the chaotic world of Twisted Metal.

Everything about this feels just right, from the trashed cars leading the way to the hangar to the synth-heavy music and the announcer calling out "new challengers approaching" as we meet our collection of weirdos.

"In Twisted Metal, that means brightening up even the most brutal apocalyptic showdowns, showing how the end of the world forces everyone - and especially Quiet - to define themselves."

The upcoming season returns with deeper ties to the video game's lore, promising to enhance the story and character connections established in the first season.

The second season of Twisted Metal, available on Peacock on July 31, focuses entirely on the Twisted Metal demolition derby, bringing action and comedy back to screens.
