At Stellantis headquarters, driving a company car gets you the best parking spots - but driving anything else can get you the boot. When the Jeep parent company ordered employees back to the office five days a week at its Auburn Hills, Michigan campus, workers discovered that parking a Tesla or Hyundai in a spot reserved for Stellantis vehicles could earn them a ticket from security.

The committee is exploring a parking permit pilot program and a regional convention to address the issue. The permit program would set aside certain streets throughout the city as places where oversized vehicles could park overnight, excluding residential zones. The committee discussed eligibility requirements for permit seekers and a requirement that participants be good neighbors and actively seek permanent housing.

Both technologies involve cameras mounted on poles designed to read license plates, and at a moment when Americans are rightly more alert to the dangers of unchecked surveillance, it makes sense that people would approach any new camera with skepticism. But similarity at the surface is not sameness in design. These systems are built for different purposes, governed by different statutes, and constrained by different guardrails.

All truckers and pass drivers will have to take their commercial driver's license tests in English as the Trump administration expands its aggressive campaign to improve safety in the industry and get unqualified drivers off the road. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced the latest effort Friday to ensure that drivers understand English well enough to read road signs and communicate with law enforcement officers. Florida already started administering its tests in English.

American families should have confidence that our school bus and truck drivers are following every letter of the law and that starts with receiving proper training before getting behind the wheel, Duffy said.

The sudden closure derailed his career plans. A trucking job was a path forward, he said, a way to earn a better living than his current rotation of gig jobs, such as putting up blinds and detailing cars. He had quit working, paid about $2,000 in tuition and fees to attend the trucking school and was hiring a babysitter to take care of his two kids so he could attend class for a few hours each day.
