His pre-game words proved prophetic as the Raptors 905 narrowly outlasted the Grand Rapids Gold 103-101 in the G League's Winter Showcase Semifinal, while extending their historic start to 16 consecutive wins. The victory required overcoming a double-digit first-half deficit and about as many lead changes as there are palm trees in sunny Orlando, where the tournament is being held.

Well, a week later and the 905 have not only made history, but remain undefeated with a perfect 13-0 record, and are one win away from a flawless 14-game Tip-Off Tournament. They got here after three wins last week, by sweeping a pair of games against the Delaware Blue Coats, before finishing off the week with a win against the Maine Celtics.

But no. This 905 team is different. They came out in the third quarter like bats out of hell and completed an improbable comeback, winning the second half 63-33 and ultimately taking the game 111-102 to extend their unbelievable start to 12-0. The rookie put up 26 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game during a perfect three-game week that saw Toronto collect three victories for the 905. The former Florida Gator recently made his NBA debut for the big boy Toronto Raptors during Toronto's most recent loss at home against the Boston Celtics, when he only featured in four minutes.

I think what separates a lot of players from this level to the NBA level is, can you do it consistently? Everyone knows what your identity is. It's the players that can do it every single night, who are the ones that get opportunities. I'm excited for our group. I still think we haven't scratched the surface for how well we can be defensively. But this was another awesome step for us.

The 25-year-old Hoggard spent Summer League with the New Orleans Pelicans, following five years in college. Hoggard played four years under Tom Izzo at Michigan State before transferring to Vanderbilt for his final collegiate season. A potential waiving of Joiner could also occur, similar to Guerrier and Key's situations in recent days. The purpose of this move would be to give Joiner a roughly $80,000 bonus to join the Raptors 905, presumably.

The tip-off tournament portion of the schedule - a 14 game segment to start the season where teams are placed into four regions and complete exclusively against each other - will conclude Dec. 16 against the Westchester Knicks. After, the team with the best winning percentage in each region, along with the next four teams with the best winning percentage regardless of region, will compete for the tournament championship at the G League winter showcase.
