"Best Canadian in the league last year, you know, not even close... Statistically and impact on the game and so he's a pillar, right? You're gonna build around Tyrese and I think he's at a point in his career now where this will be a leadership summer for him... We told Tyrese that we want to build around him and we're gonna get parts that compliment him."
Tyrese Samuel, a 25-year-old Montreal native, was traded to the Raptors 905 from the Valley Suns in exchange for a 2027 first-round pick. Samuel has averaged 9.7 points and 6.7 rebounds over two G-League seasons. The undrafted 2024 prospect played college basketball at Seton Hall and Florida before joining the Phoenix Suns organization. Samuel excelled with the Vancouver Bandits in the CEBL, averaging 21.6 points and 10.9 rebounds while winning Canadian Player of the Year. Standing 6'8", Samuel provides frontcourt depth for Toronto following Julian Reese's call-up to the NBA.
