The 10ft sculpture depicts a confident woman of colour striding in a blue dress and heels and is meant to represent a contemporary everywoman that 'many can relate to'. She is not an idol to venerate or a historic figurehead to commemorate. She is a woman striding forward into our collective future with ambition and purpose. She is a Londoner who represents the city's spirit.
"The material basis of my sculpture is metallic opportunities. Bringing pressure to the right points, I draw the aesthetic out of the industrial process," Richard Hunt, one of the most prolific public sculptors in the United States, wrote in a notebook decades ago. This idea of pressure was central to Hunt's theory about sculpture. Now that will be on full display in the late artist's first institutional survey since his death at 88 in 2023, "Richard Hunt: Pressure," at the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami.
Tom Fruin, the artist behind the colorful water tower sculptures in Brooklyn, collaborated with local fragrance house Joya to create a multi-sensory installation called All Access Pass. Find Fruin's new 12-foot rooftop tower atop Joya's waterfront space at 499 Van Brunt Street, Building 4A. It's on view through October 12. While you can see the water tower day or night, the studio is open on Thursdays from 12-6pm; Fridays-Sundays from 12-7pm; and by appointment on Monday-Wednesday.

These statues bring significant meaning today, Labor Day. Lets dive into what they mean, and what I never know about them.
