Recalls now 'a thing we live with,' political insiders say at Mission Local event

A fundamental misunderstanding of District 4 fueled the recall campaign against Supervisor Joel Engardio. Longtime political consultant Jim Ross called Prop K, supported by Engardio and successful in transforming the Great Highway into a park, one of "those weird issues." Ross noted that many native San Franciscans want to drive and park easily, especially in the western neighborhoods, which contrasts the city’s transit-first policy. Engardio's championing of Proposition K outraged voters who circulated recall petitions leading to nearly 11,000 signatures turned in by May 21.
