Focus on one specific problem to define your personal brand and build a memorable reputation.
As a finite supply of business exists in the legal industry, practitioners need to compete against each other. Clients consider many attributes when selecting counsel, including abilities, costs, and the capability to handle a given representation. When a lawyer suffers a health issue, it can create difficulties in maintaining client connection, since clients might believe that they should select other counsel without the same health challenges.
Whether we appreciate it or not, each of us has a personal brand, and everything we do affects it. It's more than your reputation, win/loss record, or what you're most known for. It's everything we do, say, post, share, write, and present. It's the cases we handle (and the ones we don't), it's how we help others (or don't), how we develop our expertise, and how we share it with others.
She won't admit it, but I'm hearing from all these helping hands that she showed up late to interviews, didn't send her resume when requested and even failed a drug test. Now she has come to me for help, and I told her I'd let her know. The truth is that I'd prefer not to put my name on the line for someone who is apparently irresponsible. How can I be honest with my friend about these missteps that she never even told me about?
