A developer has lodged an appeal against a council's refusal of its plans to build a 29-storey tower next to Battersea Bridge. The developer has now appealed to the Planning Inspectorate to overturn the council's decision and approve the controversial scheme to replace the six-storey Glassmill office building, on Battersea Bridge Road, with the tower. Inspector Joanna Gilbert will make a decision on the appeal in due course.

In good news for south London (and Kentish) commuters, JD Wetherspoons has applied to open a new branch right next to Charing Cross at 11 The Strand. 'Spoons is pitching to open in a former café and retail space. The two-floor venue will have capacity for 320 people, as well as boast a full food menu serving up to an hour before closing and a smoking area (but with no outdoor seating).

The Commission upheld an appeal against the decision of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council to refuse planning permission for the construction of a 12-metre swimming pool and jacuzzi in the grounds of the large garden of Sorrento House on Sorrento Terrace, Dalkey, Co Dublin. The small, terraced row of eight four-storey Victorian houses with panoramic views over Killiney Bay command some of the highest residential property prices in the Republic.
