When we acquired him, it was pretty clear that he was going to be pitching at the front of our rotation. He earned it. I'm excited. We're all excited. The 29-year-old right-hander gives the new-look Mets a frontline starter after their rotation struggled in the second half of a disappointing 2025 season.
The Giants trimmed its surplus of young starting pitching on Thursday evening by trading right-hander Kai-Wei Teng to the Houston Astros in exchange for catching prospect Jancel Villarroel, according to The Athletic's Chandler Rome. By trading Teng, San Francisco creates an open spot on the 40-man roster for outfielder Harrison Bader, who reportedly agreeed to a two-year, $20.5 million deal on Monday. The Giants have yet to officially announce the move.
DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies have acquired outfielder Jake McCarthy from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for minor league pitcher Josh Grosz, the teams announced Saturday. McCarthy, 28, played five seasons with the Diamondbacks and finished fourth in the National League Rookie of the Year voting in 2022 after hitting .283 with eight homers, 43 RBIs and 23 stolen bases.
The Rays traded outfielder Tristan Peters to the White Sox for cash or a player to be named later, according to announcements from both clubs. Tampa Bay had designated Peters for assignment on Tuesday when they finalized their two-year deal with Steven Matz. Chicago had a couple openings on the 40-man roster and didn't need to make another move. More to come.
"It's a recognition that what we did last year wasn't good enough and running it back with the exact same group wasn't the right thing to do," Stearns said on a Monday Zoom with reporters. "He (Semien) balances our lineup from the right side which is something we were seeking to do."
This looks like just a straight-up swap, as the Braves will be getting the reigning AL Gold Glove Award winner as a utility player in the form of Dubón in exchange for a NL Gold Glove Award finalist in the form of Allen. Allen will be leaving the Braves with a paltry slash line of .221/.284/.251 with a .245 wOBA, 53 wRC+ and 22 RBI.
Of all the unlikely heroes around Major League Baseball this season, Andrew Vaughn stands out. Vaughn went from a former third-overall draft pick, to being demoted to the minors by the worst team in the American League, to the starting first baseman of the best team in baseball. The Milwaukee Brewers pulled him off the Chicago White Sox's scrap heap in June, and the rest is history.
"To say the last seven years were fun would be a huge understatement. The people I've met along the way have helped me grow into the player - and man - that my 12-year-old self would be proud of. It was a dream come true to debut with the team that drafted me, and I'll forever be grateful to the Dodgers for the opportunity they gave me."
