Islanders 2*, Capitals 1 (*SO): Isles earn first shootout win of the season in Washington

It only took nearly the entire season, but the New York Islanders finally won a game in the shootout!!This was a pretty boring game for the first two periods, but the action picked up in the third and especially in overtime.Pierre Engvall scored the only regulation goal for the Islanders, and Ilya Sorokin was once again stellar, keeping the Islanders in it as the Capitals mostly controlled the game for the first forty minutes.

Kings 5, Islanders 2 (EN): The west coast roadtrip opens with a whimper

The good news: JG Pageau is back! The bad news: The Islanders dropped their second straight game, and looked sluggish again tonight, much like the game against the Caps on Saturday. It wasn't one of Ilya Sorokin's finest games, but he could hardly be blamed for it, really, given how the skaters were tonight.

Canadiens 4, Islanders 3 (OT): Another wasted point

On a Saturday afternoon in Montreal ([ checks notes] yeah, that's right) the New York Islanders blew another one, losing against a bottom-tier team for the second game in a row, coughing up points against teams they can least afford to hand them to.This time they at least salvaged one point, but the 4-3 overtime loss to the Canadiens was another confounding performance from an inconsistent team.

Seems like the Bo Horvat boost is officially over, as the Isles have gone back to their losing ways, dropping three straight games (though mercifully, I suppose, at least picking up two points) against some pretty weak competition. This game is particularly annoying, coming against a debutante goalie who made a ridiculous 46 saves (!!!) in his first-ever NHL game, and some of those were actually somewhat difficult ones, though the Islanders certainly made it pretty easy on him.

New York Islanders vs. Winnipeg Jets: Martin on 1st [Game #61]

One of the "fun" things about the Islanders' current injury load is seeing things like Matt Martin, first liner. That's just kind of where we are, with key centers Mat Barzal and J-G Pageau joining Josh Bailey and Oliver Wahlstrom (remember him?) on the injured list. For tonight against the Winnipeg Jets, Arnaud Durandeau - who had a nice NHL debut - sticks around, but Otto Koivula gets another look instead of Andy Andreoff, as those two were swapped in Bridgeport transactions today:
