Bayern Munich edged Union Berlin 3-2 in the DFB-Pokal last-16, a match featuring two penalties and two own goals, sending Bayern through to the next round.
Manchester United succumbed to the first defeat of their inaugural Champions League campaign 5-2 against Wolfsburg thanks to braces from both Ella Peddemors and Lineth Beerensteyn and a late finish from Vivien Endemann. The temperature in Wolfsburg may have been close to freezing but the players on the pitch did their bit to warm up the 3,817 spectators in the Volkswagen Arena.
A header from Nick Woltemade, Serge Gnabry's strike and a Leroy Sane double put Germany firmly on course for 2026 World Cup qualification in their winner-takes-all final match of European Group A against Slovakia. Knowing only victory would be enough to finish top, Slovakia were overwhelmed by their opponents' press in Leipzig, falling 4-0 behind at half-time. Woltemade headed in returning captain Joshua Kimmich's cross before Gnabry slotted in from Leon Goretzka's pass and Sane struck twice from Florian Wirtz assists.
When the final whistle finally blew at Hayes Lane on Sunday, there was a sense that something had shifted in the perception of London City Lionesses. Their thrilling 4-2 win over Tottenham felt like not merely three points but a watershed moment in London City's debut Women's Super League campaign. It meant they climbed to the top half of the table with four wins in eight matches.
However, David Moyes' team responded with a much-improved display. Idrissa Gueye and Michael Keane scored to secure the points, though the Toffees also had three goals disallowed for offside. The first of those incidents saw Thierno Barry have a close-range finish ruled out for Iliman Ndiaye drifting beyond the last man in the build-up, before James Tarkowski saw a thumping volley chalked off.
It's hard not to feel like we let this one get away. While New Zealand were impressive in the final quarter on Saturday, it was their worst performance in our last 11 meetings, which now stands at 6-5 in favour of the All Blacks. After a nightmare start with Tadhg Beirne's red card, we managed the 20 minutes with 14 men really well, deservedly leading 10-7 at half-time and 13-7 after 60 minutes.
Replying to India's 298-7, Wolvaardt led from the off and totalled 101 off 98 when she was eventually caught in the deep off the bowling off Deepti Sharma, who finished with 5-39. The support was not there for Wolvaardt, unlike that enjoyed throughout a team effort with the bat by India, as South Africa regularly lost wickets at the other end before being bowled out for 246 in the 46th over.
Atalanta and AC Milan played out a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night at the New Balance Arena, with both goals coming in the first half. The opener came just four minutes in as a corner was not properly cleared and Samuele Ricci fired in off a deflection from about 20 yards out, getting his first goal for the club. At the other end, Ademola Lookman deservedly levelled with his first goal of the season.
West Ham turned in a dreadful and unorganised performance at a sparsely attended London Stadium as Brentford took the points. Keith Andrews' visitors were entirely dominant throughout as Nuno Espirito Santo's first home game in charge of the Hammers was abject. The hosts were run ragged by Brentford who had an incredible 15 shots in the first half alone - to West Ham's three.
Conor Kane jinked down the right flank and past Darragh Crowley as the full-back's cross found Thomas, who headed home for his third league goal of the season. The ex-Wales U-21 cap should have put his side ahead earlier on but made no mistake this time, taking full advantage of Cork's poor defending to go in at the break ahead by a goal.
History came crashing down on the heads of this Ireland side in Lisbon as Heimir Hallgrimsson's outfit took the journey from heroics to heartbreak and all in a matter of seconds. For 90 minutes, the Irish side donned the all-white strip which, for once, was not the flag of surrender on foreign soil and had battled hard to frustrate a Portugal side billed as possibly the best international team in Europe right now while never living up to that adulation.
last season's SWPL runners-up dominated the early possession, but they had rarely crossed the half-way line by the time Lee Gibson was forced into an 18th-minute double save. The Scotland goalkeeper parried a powerful shot from on-loan Kansas City Current winger Flora Marta Lacho and then denied former Everton forward Rikke Madsen on the rebound. Denmark international Madsen volleyed just over from edge of the penalty box, Lacho headed straight at Gibson, who then saved at Garcia's feet.
Argentinian star forward Lionel Messi did not score for the second consecutive match, but he contributed by assisting on three of Inter Miami's goals. On the first goal contribution under a torrential downspout late in the first half, Messi delivered a precise through ball on the run to Allende, who fired the ball past New England goalkeeper Matt Turner in the 32nd minute.
Saracens overpowered Bristol Bears 50-17 to go top of the early-season Prem table with their second win of the campaign. The hosts raced into a 24-0 lead after just 21 minutes through converted scores from Theo Dan, Nick Isiekwe and Max Malins and Owen Farrell's penalty. Nick Tompkins clinched a try bonus point and a 31-0 half-time lead before the Bears responded with the try of the game from Kieran Marmion.
Napoli are back on top of Serie A, albeit in unconvincing fashion after Antonio Conte's men claimed a 3-2 win over Pisa. The defending Serie A champions maintained their 100 per cent record to return to the the position in which they entered the fourth round of fixtures and go two points clear of Juventus, who were held by Verona on Saturday.
Eintracht Frankfurt enjoyed a dream start to their first Champions League campaign since 2022-23, as they crushed Galatasaray 5-1 in their league-stage opener on Thursday. Eintracht fell behind in the eighth minute as Leroy Sane drove forward and offloaded to Yunus Akgun, who skipped inside to slot home. But the response of Dino Toppmoller's team was emphatic.
Reigning champion Jannik Sinner got his US Open defense off to a perfect start on Tuesday afternoon with a comprehensive straight-sets victory over Vit Kopriva at Arthur Ashe Stadium in an efficient performance that saw him drop just four games. Sinner needed just one hour and 38 minutes to dispose of Kopriva in a ruthless 6-1, 6-1, 6-2 defeat that laid down a marker for the rest of the men's single draw.
Borussia Dortmund let a two-goal advantage slip late on as they drew 3-3 against St. Pauli in their Bundesliga curtain-raiser on Saturday. Dortmund had Filippo Mane sent off five minutes from time, with goals from Danel Sinani and Eric Smith seeing St. Pauli completing the turnaround at Millerntor-Stadion. Niko Kovac's side took the lead in the 34th minute through Serhou Guirassy's header, though the striker missed a penalty five minutes later to double Dortmund's advantage.
Leverkusen got off to a quick start, with Quansah scoring six minutes into his Bundesliga debut after connecting with Alejandro Grimaldo's free-kick and heading past Oliver Baumann. However, Quansah was caught cold at the other end when Asllani managed to evade him in the box before firing beyond Mark Flekken at the near post to equalise in the 25th minute.
