The mass killing by a teenager could have been prevented with timely interventions from parents and state agencies.
Gunmen killed at least 50 people and abducted women and children in an overnight assault on a village in northwestern Nigeria's Zamfara State, authorities and residents said. The attack started late on Thursday night and continued into Friday morning in Tungan Dutse village in the Bukkuyum area of Zamfara when armed men arrived on motorcycles and began setting fire to buildings and abducting residents.
The ADF attack caused around 60 deaths, but the final toll will be given later this evening because the territory has just deployed services to the area to count the number of beheaded people, Col Alain Kiwewa, local administrator of the Lubero territory in Ntoyo, North Kivu, where the attack took place, told The Associated Press news agency on Tuesday.
