A scratch ticket recently purchased in Lowell granted the winner a $4 million prize. The winning ticket was a "100X" instant ticket game purchased at Pete's Gulf at 185 Woburn St., according to the Massachusetts Lottery Commission. The store will receive a $40,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. The Candy 2025 Trust of Lowell, represented by Nikki Caplis, claimed the grand prize in a one-time payment of $2.6 million before taxes on Tuesday, the lottery commission said.
One person died and another was injured after they were struck by a garbage truck in Lowell early Tuesday morning, according to officials. The garbage truck backed into a man shortly before 5 a.m. on Spring Street, the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office and Lowell Police Department said in a joint statement. The man died at the scene, officials said.
