Braves outfielder Jurickson Profar told reporters (including Mark Bowman of MLB.com) this morning that he underwent surgery for a sports hernia back in November. The procedure required six weeks of recovery time and he enters camp without any restrictions. Per Bowman, Profar indicated he first felt discomfort due to the issue back in September and it flared up again during offseason workouts.

The portent of the 2025 Atlanta Braves season being... really dumb and no fun was Jurickson Profar eating a PED suspension after the first series of the season. By the time Profar came back, his new team was more or less dead in the water as far as playoff potential. Profar also didn't really do anything to revive them - his 1.3 fWAR in 371 PAs, which was only achieved due to a fair bit of xwOBA overperformance, was basically a bog-standard rate. It was better than Alex Verdugo, but it wasn't actually good.

The Braves announced Thursday that they've released right-hander Cal Quantrill and designated infielder/outfielder Luke Williams for assignment. That duo's roster spots will go to outfielder Jurickson Profar, who's returning from the paternity list, and righty Daysbel Hernandez, who has been recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett. Quantrill's time with Atlanta will last all of two weeks. The Braves claimed the righty off waivers from the Marlins on Aug. 21, absorbing the remaining $715K on his $3.5MM salary in the process.

Jurickson Profar has a 105 wRC+ against expectations of around 110 after returning from suspension, performing adequately despite worse walk and strikeout rates.

Jurickson Profar has started with a couple of home runs but is struggling, hitting .219/.242/.406 and is not suited to bat at the top of the order right now.

Jurickson Profar delivered surprisingly wonderful numbers during the 2024 season, hitting .280/.380/.459 for the San Diego Padres over 158 games, with 24 HR, 85 RBI, 10 SB and 94 runs.
