The pioneer choir, which has expanded over more than five decades from a small nine-member group into a major ethnically-diverse ensemble, is bringing home the 2026 Grammy Award for Best Roots Gospel Album for "I Will Not Be Moved: Live with The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir." The choir was presented with the prize during the 68th Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony, held in Los Angeles.
Grammy-nominated gospel singer Jubilant Sykes was stabbed to death in his Santa Monica home late Sunday, and his son was taken into custody at the scene, police said. The 71-year-old victim, a prominent singer as well as an actor, was pronounced dead shortly after police arrived at the residence, according to Santa Monica Police Lt. Lewis Gilmore. There, they also discovered his son, 31-year-old Micah Sykes, still inside the Delaware Avenue home. He was booked on suspicion of homicide.
People automatically assume that there is a place that celebrates Christian gospel music somewhere in America, and there isn't.
