The towering 1.94 m goalkeeper has produced moments of excellent shot-stopping and leadership, in fact, he featured prominently in Spurs' 2024-25 Europa League campaign and contributed to their continental success. But a string of recent high-profile errors, including a costly clearance blunder in a 21 home loss to Fulham, have tested both fan patience and the club's confidence in him. The same mistake sparked audible boos from supporters and forced his manager to publicly defend him.

Look, he's a good keeper, great shot stopper, but there are certainly some issues around his personality and his behaviour. They always say goalkeepers are mad and he's certainly one of those paid up members of the mad goalkeeper union. But still, I think he's a quality keeper and think a lot of clubs would be looking for him.

Over the next eight months, there are going to be a lot of rumours about goalkeepers, with Mike Maignan's future at AC Milan looking clouded. The situation with Maignan is not getting any better. In fact, it is probably getting worse, whilst he progresses, which is certainly a conundrum. Milan want the extension now - one that they didn't want a few months ago - and he no longer does, or at least not yet.

Bayern Munich moved swiftly in the winter transfer window to sign Jonas Urbig. The young German goalkeeper is highly rated at Bayern. He is currently the deputy to Manuel Neuer. Urbig stepped up in the absence of Neuer during crucial games last season. Apart from Urbig, Bayern also have Alexander Nubel on their books. The former Schalke goalkeeper has been excelling for VfB Stuttgart during the last two seasons.

The 23-year-old has quickly risen to prominence in European football and is now seen as one of Villa's primary targets should Emiliano Martinez leave the club this summer. Martinez, Villa's World Cup-winning shot-stopper, has attracted strong interest from Manchester United, who remain locked in negotiations with the Midlands club over a potential transfer. While Villa have no desire to lose one of their most important players, the reality of the market has forced them to prepare contingency plans.
