A man lying in an alley in San Jose early Thursday morning died after being hit by a garbage truck, according to police. The collision was reported at about 4:05 a.m. in the 2800 block of Bascom Avenue. Investigators determined that a man driving a Peterbilt garbage truck west on Shamrock Drive turned north into the rear alley of a strip mall on Bascom Avenue and hit the man, who was covered in blankets and lying in the alley, San Jose police said.
