"A man lying in an alley in San Jose early Thursday morning died after being hit by a garbage truck, according to police. The collision was reported at about 4:05 a.m. in the 2800 block of Bascom Avenue. Investigators determined that a man driving a Peterbilt garbage truck west on Shamrock Drive turned north into the rear alley of a strip mall on Bascom Avenue and hit the man, who was covered in blankets and lying in the alley, San Jose police said."
"The man was taken to a hospital and succumbed to his injuries there. His name was not immediately released. The garbage truck driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police said this is the 29th traffic death on San Jose streets in 2025 and the 14th involving a pedestrian.
