Average office lunches cost about $23.60 in major urban areas, totaling roughly $5,664 annually versus about $5.50 per packed lunch.
Food prices have increased across the board, but fast food burgers have been particularly hard hit. Overall food inflation since 2019 has been over 30%, but many fast food menu items have seen average jumps of 55%. During that same time the cost of beef has risen 50%, driven by thinning herds due to drought and high demand. So with everything seeming stacked against us, can anyone still get a cheap burger in this country? Thankfully there are still a few options.
Fast food is getting expensive, and it's hard not to notice. What was once the go-to for quick, affordable meals has started to feel like a splurge. According to a Finance Buzz analysis, average fast food prices have jumped between 39% and 100% between 2014 and 2024 (inflation rose only 31% during that same period). Gone are the days of the true dollar menu.
