General Motors just made life a little easier for the owners of its electric cars. That's because over 5,000 Electrify America DC fast chargers in the United States have been integrated into the car company's own smartphone apps. In other words, Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac EV owners can use the native myChevrolet, myGMC or myCadillac app instead to find chargers, initiate charging and pay for the top-up.

Starting on November 18th, Volkswagen owners in the U.S. and Canada will be able to plug into one of more than 25,000 supported Superchargers across North America. This is a pretty major upgrade for VW drivers. For comparison, the vehicles currently have access to about 5,000 DC Fast Charging sites through VW's partnership with Electrify America. Of course it also has access to any other DC Fast Charger available publicly as well, but Tesla's massive network opens up significant more charging opportunities for owners.

Electrify America is now posting live updates about its DC fast chargers on Google Maps. EV drivers can use the navigation app to find available chargers. This way, owners don't have to jump from one app to another when planning a trip. Electrify America, one of the largest operators of electric vehicle fast chargers in the United States, is now offering real-time charger availability updates on Google Maps.

Our first test, at a 350-kilowatt station with plenty of power to meet the Charger Daytona's 210-kW rating, started off fine. Video chief Mike Roselli arrived with a 15% state of charge. At 40%, the session was cruising along at around 150 kW. Suddenly, the charge rate plummeted to 2 kW, before rising back up to 150. At around 50% battery, the power output fell to a measly 73 kW, trending downward as it reached 80%.
