Charging A Rivian Is About To Get Even Easier
"In the upcoming 2025.38 software update, the American EV startup's vehicles will gain Plug & Charge functionality at Electrify America and Ionna stations across the United States. This means owners will be able to simply plug in, and the session will start automatically without having to pay at the site. That said, the feature only works if owners have a payment method set up in their Rivian account."
"What's more, Rivian will integrate the two companies' DC fast chargers into its cars' navigation system, where drivers will see real-time charger availability and the company's Charging Scorea scoring system that rates each stall to provide a simple overview of how dependable it is. Rivian owners could charge at Electrify America and Ionna stations before, but this new software update will make it more convenient."
"All of this is in addition to the 20,000+ Tesla Superchargers that are open to non-Tesla EVs in the U.S. These can also be used by Rivian owners through the Rivian app with Plug & Charge functionality. Rivian said R1S and R1T drivers now have access to more than 50,000 DC fast charging stations in North America through its app, making cross-country road trips easier than ever before"
Rivian will add Plug & Charge functionality at Electrify America and Ionna stations nationwide in the 2025.38 software update, allowing charging sessions to begin automatically when a vehicle is plugged in if a payment method is on file. The update integrates Electrify America and Ionna DC fast chargers into onboard navigation, displaying real-time charger availability and a Charging Score that rates each stall's dependability. Owners can continue using existing stations with improved convenience. Tesla Superchargers open to non-Tesla vehicles remain available through the Rivian app with Plug & Charge. The Rivian app now provides access to over 50,000 DC fast chargers across North America.
