Dual moguls is new to the Olympics this year. It's head-to-head heats, with skiers facing moguls, gates, and jumps-and being judged, head-to-head, on each element for a combined score. In the men's medal rounds today, Japan's Ikuma Horishima (pictured above, sort of) had a disastrous run in his round-of-16 showdown, and somehow ended up facing the wrong way. That's an odd and very specific sort of adversity to overcome, but he did it.
Mikael Kingsbury won the men's dual moguls final on Sunday to capture Canada's first gold medal of the Milano Cortina Olympic Games. Kingsbury won the big final against Ikuma Horishima of Japan, who took silver, while Matt Graham of Australia rounded out the podium in the bronze-medal position. It's the second medal win of these Games for the native of Deux-Montagnes, Que. Kingsbury took silver after losing a tiebreaker in the final of the moguls event on Thursday.
On June 24 2022 the International Olympic Committee 'IOC' announced the addition of two new disciplines to the Winter Olympics. These disciplines are dual moguls and women's large hill ski jumping. The addition of women's large hill jumping leaves Nordic Combined as the last men-only Winter Olympic event. Today we'll take a closer look at dual moguls, which will premier at the ski resort of Livigno, Italy, at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympics for both men and women.
