With Carson Soucy being held out tonight for roster management reasons, the trade has been finalized. The Rangers are trading Soucy to the Islanders for a 3rd round pick in this year's draft. This was the expected return for Soucy given what we know about trade deadline rentals, and at least somewhat recoups the trade acquisition cost from last year's ill-advised trade at the deadline to acquire the defenseman. Carson Soucy was not very good with the Rangers. After the deadline he was a healthy scratch for a few games as he was simply that bad. This year he improved, but it always looked like he was skating in mud.
Artemi Panarin was locked in last night, opening the scoring only minutes in and adding three assists. Things have not always been smooth in the top six, but if they are finally turning a corner then it's the perfect time for the conglomerate of talent to finally click. It's been the missing link, as the bottom six has mainly been carrying the Rangers so far.
After arriving from Vancouver, Soucy played just four games before sitting as a healthy scratch, ironically as Adam Fox returned from injury. But Soucy was exceptionally bad in those four games, looking like he was skating in mud and becoming yet another punch line about Chris Drury's moves on defense. The criticism was fair. Soucy's numbers, along with the rest of the Rangers, weren't good.
