"The Rangers lines tonight will remain largely unchanged, but the Blueshirts will welcome back defenseman Carson Soucy, who has been on IR for a week with a suspected concussion. Soucy's return seemed imminent, and there were rumblings that Matthew Robertson could find himself back on the bench despite solid play. Mike Sullivan surprised us though, as Urho Vaakanainen will sit, and Robertson will stick in the lineup."
"Robertson's surprising start to the season has perhaps addressed part of the Rangers left defense woes. They still need a puck mover, but if Robertson can remain steady and consistent over the course of a full season, then the goal of removing both Soucy-who is the only Rangers defenseman with poor possession metrics (small sample warning)-and Vaakanainen will be met."
The Rangers will keep largely the same lineup but will reinstate defenseman Carson Soucy from injured reserve after a suspected concussion. Matthew Robertson will remain in the lineup despite earlier speculation he might be benched. Coach Mike Sullivan scratched Urho Vaakanainen in favor of Robertson. Robertson's strong early-season play has improved the team's left-side defensive depth. The team still lacks a true puck-moving defenseman. If Robertson sustains steady, consistent play over a full season, the club could phase out both Soucy and Vaakanainen from regular duty. Soucy's possession metrics have been poor in a small sample, reinforcing the need for effective puck transition on the left side.
