Earlier this year campaign group Protect Brockwell Park launched a legal challenge against Lambeth Council after summer festivals were approved to run in the park without proper planning permission. The High Court ruled in favour of Protect Brockwell Park, finding that events like Mighty Hoopla, Field Day, Cross the Tracks and Wide Awake exceeded the 28-day period allowed for temporary land use. Though the festivals still took place as planned this summer, at the time the Council said it would appeal the ruling.
Sad news, south Londoners: Lambeth Country Show won't be taking place in 2026. For those not in the know, Lambeth Country Show is a fair that the local council has been running since 1974 in Brockwell Park. The much loved south London show is, according to its website, one of the biggest free family festivals in the UK, with highlights including petting zoos, flower competitions, live music and jousting.
Our beautiful Brockwell Park is a haven for nature and of immense value to the people of Lambeth and Southwark, but it's under threat from private events.
