There are no if's, and's, or but's about it, Laba has earned the right to make the team out of camp. He has been noticeable in all of his preseason games he has played in. Laba has been the best rising prospect in the system for a reason. If the Rangers are serious about rewarding good play and effort, then Laba is at the top of the list to be rewarded. If he were to make the final roster, it would certainly offer a better upside than Juuso Parssinen as the 3C.
After losing in OT the night before, the NY Rangers prospects responded with a dominant 5-2 win over the Flyers prospects. Brennan Othmann had a fantastic outing with 3 assists, Gabe Perreault had a key primary power play assist and the empty netter to put the game away, Scott Morrow had 2 assists, and Callum Tung stopped 21 of 23 shots for the win. The big guns showed up and solidified their spots as the top guys in the rookie series.
Earlier this week, the Rangers rookie camp roster was released, as rookie camp starts today. Most of the names are as expected, with one exception. Brennan Othmann, who is entering the final year of his entry level contract signed in 2021, is a bit of a surprise to see on the roster. Othmann could be named captain of the rookie camp, which would explain why the soon to be 23 year old is participating this year.
