Rangers recall Brennan Othmann - Blue Seat Blogs
"The Rangers have recalled forward Brennan Othmann again. To make space, Anton Blidh was returned to the AHL. Othmann was reassigned on New Year's Day after the first wave of 2026 injuries that included Noah Laba and Conor Sheary. His reassignment then was due to bonuses in his contract making it impossible to keep him on the roster and still be cap compliant."
"The yo-yoing of Othmann is frustrating, especially since he's barely played. He's either been a healthy scratch or stapled to the fourth line. Given how bad the Rangers have been...or are...it makes no sense to keep him in the bottom six. Just let the kid play and see what he has. Or don't, since that won't kill his trade value."
Brennan Othmann was recalled to the Rangers while Anton Blidh was returned to the AHL to free a roster spot. Othmann was previously reassigned on New Year's Day after the first wave of 2026 injuries that included Noah Laba and Conor Sheary because bonuses in his contract made it impossible to keep him on the roster and remain cap compliant. With players returning, other roster transactions and LTIR moves, and enough time to bank cap space, Othmann can rejoin the NHL roster. Othmann has been frequently shuffled, often a healthy scratch or confined to the fourth line, limiting his opportunity to play. Keeping him in the bottom six appears counterproductive given the team's struggles, and giving him playing time would reveal his capabilities while a trade would likely preserve his value.
