The Silverlode Express Lift, built in 1996, is known for having long lines, servicing many popular runs and being the closest lift to the Quicksilver Gondola. The new proposal aims to upgrade it from a six-chair to an express eight-chair lift, increasing uphill capacity from 3,000 to 3,600 skiers per hour.
"The glacier itself has since 1996 melted continuously. Today the glacier is 300 meters (1,000 feet) from the original lift entrance, and there is now a large lake between the glacier and the original entrance. You would need a boat to access it in summer."
The Canterbury region woke up to the coldest day of the year so far, with windchill making residents wonder if it's time to turn on the heating and bring out the winter bedding and heated blankets.
The build up to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina have been far from ideal. The ice rink has been delayed and riddled with issues. The bobsleigh track has been controversial from the start. History shows that many Winter Olympic hosts have also been plagued by late construction completions and rising costs, but perhaps 2026 represents a tipping point.
The ongoing Sunday night into Monday storm across the central Andes keeps producing mainly upper-mountain snow through Monday before tapering out by Tuesday morning, April 21. A realistic near-term outcome is about 16-20 cm at Las Leñas, 9-11 cm at Valle Nevado, and lighter 5-8 cm amounts around El Colorado, La Parva, and Portillo.
Switzerland's men have dominated the ski slopes of Milano Cortina. Not since the super-G and the team combined were added to the Olympic programme in 1988 has one country won four of the five events a feat achieved with Loic Meillard's victory in the slalom on Monday. Only Brazil managed to stop them in these Games. Franjo von Allmen has been their undisputed star, heading home with three golds in his hand luggage.

Both avid and casual skiers know that winter requires preparation. If you want to ski as many days as possible, you must have a game plan. After all, skiing is an expensive sport, so budget is typically one of the top considerations. But before you book flights, hotels, and lift tickets, or decide if you want to invest in an Epic Pass or Ikon Pass, you'll need to identify which ski resorts you want to explore over the course of a few months.
Friday's snow event is expected to be modest, with most open resorts like Arapahoe Basin and Breckenridge receiving a couple of inches, while closed areas like Snowmass may see up to half a foot.
Henry Crown was born as Henry Krinsky in Chicago in 1896 to Lithuanian immigrant parents. With just an eighth‑grade education, he and his brothers founded the Material Service Corporation in 1919, selling gravel, sand and building materials to the booming Midwest construction industry. By the late 1950s, Crown had used that business as a springboard into defense contracting, gaining controlling interest in General Dynamics in 1959.
Pushing limits drives snowboarding, but protection has to keep pace. Athlete safety has always been personal to me. At The Snow League, we're always looking for ways to better support athletes at the highest level. Piloting Crash Patch was one way we encouraged our athletes to make smart decisions in the moment.
President's Day Weekend delivered much-needed snow to eager thrill seekers in Silverton, Colorado. My commute was outstanding, as per usual for the infamous Red Mountain Pass. Amazingly, the preceding day, nearly a foot of snow fell on the surrounding San Juan Mountains, then making way to bluebird Colorado skies. The stage was set for an adrenaline-packed weekend of skijoring in Silverton, free admission no less.
Day two of X-Games was a nice show, with three different sports to watch. Yep, Snowmobiling is back. Several events got postponed because of how much snow fell overnight and throughout the day, so it was a bit chaotic at times, scrambling from one event to another, but I will never complain about snow falling, and it made for an active day. Celebrities, including Justin Bieber, Gunna, Johnny Knoxville, Alvin Kamara, and Alex Bregman, showed up to X-Games today to participate in the fun.
The mission for the campers will be to build their own features and make use of natural hits all over the mountain, turning Glencoe into a rider's paradise full of fun spots! Once the spots are ready to run, jam sessions will take place, where campers get to throw down for a chance to win some spot prizes for tricks and progression.
OlympicsWith the start of the Milano-Cortina Olympics just a few weeks away, Tamarack, Idaho has been gearing up for a wide array of Olympics themed events during the games. In between runs, the Seven Devils Taphouse will be streaming coverage from the games every day from their start on February 6 to their end on February 22.
The recent winter storm that slammed North America over the weekend brought along heavy snowfall, delivering some serious snow totals to ski resorts and ski areas from the Rocky Mountains to New England. The past 24 hours brought just around 24 inches of snow to Mountain Creek Resort, creating a serious powder wonderland across the New Jersey ski area. As of January 26th, 43 trails and 8 lifts are open to skiers and snowboarders, with powder and machine groomed conditions found around the mountain.
As Colorado's first formalized ski area it marks many significant point in state's mountain sports history including the first resort to allow snowboarders on chairlifts. There are many factors that led to its ultimate demise but the addition of nearby Winter Park Ski Resort played a major role as it ended up being the preferred resort in the area.
