A man was shot in the buttocks in the Bronx on February 27, 2026, and remains in stable condition while police search for the suspect.
Authorities are investigating an incident caught on video of a man assaulting someone trying to protect a fellow Caltrain passenger whom the attacker was verbally harassing. The incident took place on December 23 at the San Carlos station, and the Good Samaritan was taken to the hospital with facial fractures. [KTVU] Parts of Marin County experienced heavy flooding Friday, and a flood advisory was in effect along the coast of the Bay Area through Sunday.
"Most crimes against foreigners are crimes of opportunity. This includes pickpocketing, purse snatchings, and petty thefts," the State Department wrote in its advisory. "Petty crime occurs in crowded outdoor shopping areas, beaches, and other tourist spots. It also happens near ATMs." In addition to these petty crimes, the State Department said more serious crimes have been reported, including break-ins, verbal harassment and crimes against women, and even violent crime, including assault, murder, and rape.

The shooting, which also resulted in serious injuries to two others, took place early Saturday morning on the college town's main street. One individual, not from the city, got into a verbal dispute and then opened fire toward the people he was confronting. The three individuals he hit, however, were bystanders. In a letter sent the same day as the shooting, Choi called on city and county leaders to bolster the police presence and prosecute crimes to the fullest extent of the law.
Transit police are investigating a stabbing on board a Bronx subway train Tuesday night that left a man seriously injured. According to police sources, the incident took place at around 10:42 p.m. on Sept. 30 on a northbound 4 train at the 149 Street-Grand Concourse station.
